BIO

Dr. Shulman trained in Medicine at McGill University (1989), and in Psychiatry (1994), Geriatric Psychiatry (1996), and Clinical Pharmacology (1996) all at the University of Toronto and is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Medicine. Dr. Shulman was the founding Medical Director for Seniors Mental Health Services at the former Trillium Health Centre from 2001 to 2013, and from 2013 to 2020, was the inaugural Medical Director for Seniors Mental Health Services at Trillium Health Partners where he continues to work as a 0.8 FTE clinician/educator/researcher at Mississauga Hospital and in 3 Special Behavioural Support Units in Long-term Care Homes in Mississauga.

Dr. Shulman led the development of the Canadian Mental Health First Aid Seniors Course in conjunction with the Mental Health Commission of Canada and is the inventor of the Sour Seven Delirium Questionnaire for Caregivers. Since January 2021, the remainder of his time is spent working as Medical Director of the Capacity Clinic Ltd, whereby he provides independent medical-legal capacity evaluations. Dr. Shulman has testified as an expert witness in oner 20 trials at the Ontario Superior Court. Dr. Shulman is a cofounder of the non-profit Canadian Centre for Decision-Making Capacity.
